More and more of us are heading into the back country. Equipment is making it easier and easier to ski deep snow. As we venture off-piste the risk of serious consequences becomes something we can’t ignore.
The day aims to give you an overview of the risks in the mountains when they’re covered in snow. We’ll cover how the snow pack is formed from different crystal shapes, how it changes and the safety implications of that. The equipment we use has a massive bearing on our safety so we’ll look at that and the various different solutions to help you survive the unlucky day we hope never comes. We’ll also look at danger signs in the snow pack, areas to avoid, times of day and the signs the professionals look for to keep their clients, and ultimately themselves, alive.
The workshop is held at Chill Factore in Manchester, and runs from 10am to 4pm. There will be a break for lunch and there are various places to purchase food and refreshments throughout the building.
